After buying and testing paddles from 17 brands with my own money, the best pickleball paddle brands are the ones that fit your game: JOOLA and Selkirk for the…
The kitchen is the most misunderstood part of pickleball. I’ve watched beginners lose points because of it, intermediates argue over it, and even experienced players get the momentum rule wrong. Fortunately, the kitchen rules are much simpler than most people think. If you’re new to the game, understanding the kitchen is just as important as…
Last Updated: October 2026 Quick Answer: A legal pickleball serve is hit underhand from behind the baseline, diagonally into the opposite service box, and must clear the kitchen. You can use a volley serve (hit out of the air) or a drop serve (let the ball bounce first). At least one foot stays behind the…
Last Updated: October 2026 Quick Answer: In pickleball, only the serving team can score. Games go to 11 points and you must win by 2. In doubles, the server calls three numbers before each serve: their team’s score, the opponent’s score, and server number 1 or 2. Every doubles game starts at 0-0-2. When I…

Quick Answer: I test every paddle I review on court, across multiple sessions, with a minimum of 5 hours per paddle. I check spin, pop, and power, swing weight, sweet spot, and grip comfort, then validate my findings with players from 3.0 to 5.0 before I set a rating. I buy every paddle myself, and…
For my first eight months, I played pickleball like I’d wandered off a tennis court and refused to admit it. Big swings. Deep returns. Plenty of noise. The result? Hundreds of unforced errors, a string of doubles partners who suddenly had “scheduling conflicts,” and Gerald. Gerald is 67. Gerald was an accountant. Gerald wrecked me…
